This week in the Shack

I was at a party Saturday night, and a friend and I were talking about all the shows we've learned about either after the fact or after tickets had sold out. She's fairly new to Austin, and commented that, while she's missed a lot of stuff, every blues show she's made it to in town has been absolutely amazing. And it made me sit back and think about how lucky we really are in both our hometown musicians and those just up the road in Dallas, Houston, and elsewhere in the state. This week's program, therefore, is a collection of blues, soul, and funk spanning almost eighty years of Texas music history - from Blind Willie Johnson in the late 1920s to last week's T Bird and the Breaks' release. (And, yes, I still need to add some Blind Lemon Jefferson, Texas Alexander, and some of the other early blues masters to my library...I'm working on it.)
