New releases

In the last few weeks, Austin blues/roots trio porterdavis has released their new eponymous album and local latin funk band Brownout have released their second album, "Aguilas and Cobras". I highly recommend both discs.

In addition, on October 6, Light in the Attic will release Betty Davis' fourth album, "Is It Love or Desire", which was recorded in 1976 but never saw the light of day until now. eMusic has it available now, and if you're into greasy, nasty seventies funk, you can't go without it.

This week in the Shack

My intention this week was to do a set that focused mostly on acoustic blues, but that's not what the loa of rhythm and melody decided was going to happen. Instead, the set starts out mostly acoustic, with a mix of old and new song, wanders over to gospel for a while, and finishes with a mix of more electric blues and pieces featuring the blues harp. As always, I hope you dig it.
